RIP HASTINGS Podcast

As i pass by, slowly watching the life of Hastings Entertainment slip away. I cant help but to reminisce about my memories with the versatile one stop shop for entertainment!

It all started when my family moved to Lubbock from Austin.
In the big city we had tons of used music and book stores that we would frequent when in need of entertainment from music, movies, literature or just random bullshit.

Arnett Benson had its one stop shop that we grew to enjoy and made weekly visits. We spent hours reading the backs of every CD, thumbing through books from music business to Low Rider Magazines, and we usually left with some rented movies or games!
This place was called Hastings Entertainment. Where Hastings once thrived now stands "The Rooftop", "Chick-fil-A" and a Dominoes! cant be mad at whoever made the trade but fawk, Hastings was lit!

When i was 12 years old, 2002. I started taking music serious. I knew for a fact that i was going to do it for the rest of my life and i was going to learn everything i could from my most valuable resource!  Damn right, Hastings. So I would usually start with some motivation. I would start with a copy of "The Source" magazine and read up on the newest albums and artist. I loved the Unsigned Hype segment and of course the legendary mic system, where albums were rated on a scale of 1-5 mics! talk about anticipation!
After reading up on who to check out, shit you know whats next, go preview the albums at the listening station. You would take an album, scan the bar code, and hear like 60 second snippets of each song, that was time consuming but worth it.
After listening to every available snippet i would move on to the literature.  I would read books about music business, about copy write and law, about how to build studios. How to market. gaaw damn i was an advanced 12 year old! But that's what happens when your born for something it consumes you!
Their was a point in time that i started to notice CDs in a local section of the music area. Low and behold i slither of hope for a young dreamer! All of a sudden, every dream, every idea and vicarious interview became attainable! I was so excited to see that people around me where chasing dreams and goals!
It didn't take long before my CD case was full of the likes of Hub City legends, Raza Deep, LBK mafia, Yella Boy, Lil melv, SIN, The TaxMan, and probably way more then i can remember!

Lets fast forward 3 years. 2005. You guessed it Big Ben, LSDuke, and I, pulled up with a shipment of our very own CDs to be sold under a consignment deal at the very place I spent countless hours drawing up the blueprint for my WHOLE entire life.

That was a great accomplishment and picking up checks from Hastings was a huge Chip on the shoulder.

THANK YOU HASTINGS STAFF MEMBERS FOR SEEING THE PASSION IN A YOUNG SOUL. FOR NEVER KICKING ME OUT OF THE STORE AND FOR ANSWERING SOME PROBABLY STUPID ASS QUESTIONS.
